It's true, no other country does Christmas markets quite like Germany.
And apparently the city of Dresden has the oldest documented Christmas market dating back to 1434! It was festive to the max, and one of my favorite markets to photograph.
We had just one full day here in Dresden, so most of our daylight hours were spent meandering the city's central, massive market.
But every free corner, and every free square around the city hosted their own mini markets, including one just steps away from our hotel.
Dresden may have also been my favorite market because they had live sheep in their nativity scene :)
I'm also a big fan of climbing churches in Europe. Most of them offer secret stairwells that make you squeeze yourself through tiny spaces as they spiral to the top. You're also guaranteed the best views of the city.
Fortunately, there was a church right at the corner of Dresden's main market, so we got to see the festivities from above, as well as some of Dresden's other iconic buildings.
And just like that, this was our final destination of the Christmas season. We managed to come home for a couple of weeks around Christmas and New Years, but in early January, we'll be back on a flight to Europe to experience some of the best skiing in the world... somewhere atop the Alps!
Stay tuned :)
